Residential Stucco
Today, stucco is used mostly as an exterior wall covering and is a relatively low-maintenance exterior finish. Stucco can be directly applied to brick, concrete and to paper or wire mesh over a wood frame or other material as often seen with the classic and beautiful Spanish-style home.
Some would argue that you can easily "paint or whitewash concrete to make it look like stucco" but the issue here is that paint does not usually remain on concrete for more than a couple of years and requires a constant re-application.
Paint also makes "breathing" for concrete difficult; when furnished with colored stucco, a home will not require painting. There are also many other applications of stucco .
